Iridium 9505A satellite phone

Short Message Service (SMS)*
As an Infosat Iridium voice subscriber, your Iridium Satellite phone performs double-duty as a voice communication and a two-way messaging device. The Iridium Satellite phone supports 160 characters in a single message. For a low per-message fee and no additional activation or monthly access fees, Infosat's SMS Service allows you to stay in touch around the world. Subscribers only pay for messages they send from the handset, incoming messages are free of charge.
Note*: The SMS service is not supported on pre-paid accounts or Iridium 9500 handsets. Messages can be entered from the Iridium keypad or from your laptop computer (Iridium data kit required for computer).
Iridium Data
Short Burst Data (SBD)
Remote Applications send Mobile Originated SBD (MO-SBD) data messages via an Iridium 9522 L-Band Transceiver (“LBT”) or the Iridium 9601 transceiver. The application microcontroller or microprocessor communicates with the transceiver over an RS-232 serial port. The application loads the data message into the transceiver and instructs it to send the data message. The data message is transmitted across the Iridium satellite network utilizing inter-satellite links to reach the Iridium Gateway.
Mobile Terminated SBD (MT-SBD) messages are sent to the Iridium Gateway via e-mail from our host computer system. MT-SBD data messages are delivered to the transceiver following a MO-SBD or “mail-box check” initiated by the remote application.
Circuit Switched Data (CSD)
This uses an Iridium modem to call another Iridium or land-line modem. CSD involves a single time slot to deliver data transmission across the Iridium Network and to the gateway where it could be connected through a modem to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) allowing direct calls to any dial up service.
Iridium 9522A
The 9522A Data Transceiver offers both circuit-switch and short burst data capabilities. It is intended for incorporation into a final Iridium subscriber product that would supply power, provide an antenna, and provide user interface components such as keypad, display, microphone, and speaker. Data applications are supported through an RS-232 serial interface.
Iridium 9601 transceiver
The 9601 SBD Transceiver combines the global coverage of the Iridium satellite constellation with the low latency of the Iridium Short Burst Data Service (SBD) in a small, low-cost transceiver design. The 9601 is a lower cost, Iridium Satellite LLC manufactured product designed as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) module for integration into applications that only use the Iridium Short Burst Data Service.
Iridium Dial-up Data Services
Dial-Up Data Service provides dial-up connectivity from a PC, through your Iridium phone to another computer, a corporate network/LAN or an ISP (Internet Service Provider). This service offers a data rate of up to 2.4 Kbps.
Iridium Direct Internet Data Services
Direct Internet Data Service provides connectivity from a PC, through your Iridium phone, directly to the Internet through dedicated servers at the Iridium gateway. This service utilizes transparent compression, resulting in a data rate of up to 10 Kbps, depending on content. (Graphics and images will result in lower throughput.)
